Forward Thinking.

the temptation to revisit my 2010 archives is subsiding. this is a time for reflection, not reliving.

if you’ve hung around a bit, you at the very least know the stories.

at the very best were part of the adventures.

if you are just getting on board, it’s time to create new ones.

thank you, Inwood, for the most exciting year ever in Manhattan’s Peak.

xoxo,
Z

Dig out the string lights this Thanksgiving weekend!

fancy up your windows this weekend, Inwood. we are about to show the world what inner city community holiday spirit really looks like.

yes, it is time again for Inwood Shines Bright!

are you free for about 30 minutes some time this week or next? we’re looking for locals to count the buildings on their block and post flyer’s in the lobbies and lamp posts. you give me a count, i’ll give you the flyers. the goal: one flyer in every lobby in Inwood. can we do it?

just so you know, cooper street thinks they are going to be the brightest in the neighborhood. aint that some shit? i’m fairly sure isham street is going to kick their ass with the most bling.

Could you let others who are interested in playing chess that Y.A. will be at Emerson playground to play chess with any child interested. Let’s go show the love. He says he will tell the other men as well.

Positive Energy Is Contagious

usually i tell my blog readers first when we are doing something fun in the neighborhood, free, and open to all. but some of you guys reading this right now are energy suckers. stop it, already.

this post is specifically for those who rock, who might not have heard via facebook or twitter or the grapevine, a group of frackin awesome neighbors (who are now friends!!) are getting together tomorrow, wednesday night, at Irish Eyes from 7-10 pm.  it’s a short walk to 213th & broadway. drinks poured heavy and cheap. space for us to breathe and hug it out, etc.

we didnt know each other a year ago, funny enough. we just had enough balls to get off the sofa and go to something like this and say, hi my name is pronounced Zay-duh. or just call me Z if you can’t remember… so, you live here too, huh?

this whole “Inwood Social” started because a mom friend, Julia, needs a goddamn positive energy rubdown *insert MeToo here* to get us through another day. it’s okay to admit that this is what we want from our circle, so we asked if anybody was free to join us. turns out, a lot of you are. and thank goodness for it.

and while you are out and about with us anyway, im bringing my flip video camera and going to ask you a question or three for a quick video Rich the genius behind Vote Latinoe is preparing for Inwood Shines Bright which launches next week.  have you seen his videos? watch. now. he filmed this on dyckman:

things i might ask on camera:
define “community”
tell me why you love your neighborhood today
what’s your favorite thing about Inwood and why

or we might just get a shot of your beautiful, smiling face as you chat with other friends and neighbors.

like always, this is a casual, come as you are. be it from home, the gym, from work, whatever. we dont care.

and that’s the point: to surround ourselves with people who accept us fully. people full of hugs, kisses and warmth.

im bringing kids and so are others.  join us, if you are free. it’d be lovely to see you.

Gay Club Waves Rainbow Flag on Dyckman

Subject: Review of New Inwood Gay Club

Hi, manhattanspeak!

I’ve been a reader of your blog since I moved to Inwood four years ago, and I hoped you and your readers might appreciate a review I just posted of the new gay club that opened up on Dyckman, Le Boy Bar!

http://samjmiller.com/2010/09/19/inwood-gets-a-gay-club-le-boy-bar-venue-review/

Even for my heterosexual comrades and neighbors, if you love dancing it’s a very chill spot worth checking out…

Thanks for two years of good reading material,

POLL: Inwood’s New Nightlife

via DNAinfo

Carla from TSWWL and DNAinfo has confirmed that Inwoodites can expect 10 more dining & drinking options, including a Thai restaurant in Park Terrace Bistro’s old spot.

so, locals, what do you think? will these new establishments bring more noise and traffic to our sleepy streets? does the good outweigh the bad?

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

We live in THE BEST neighborhood in all of Manhattan – HAND’S DOWN.

We launched a brand new community project called Inwood Shines Bright! which asks neighbors to bring back old Inwood traditions and make them new again.

10034 is changing at a rapid fire pace, but we can still keep the old flames alive – the ones that brought us here to begin with.

read more about Inwood Shines Bright! on our header page, and what you can do to make our neighborhood a much brighter place this Holiday season.

our community is our family, and like most things in life we cant do it alone. we want to thank the following people for helping out  behind the scenes on such short notice:

Lyana of Latinos For Obama, Claudio of Live Above Mediocrity blog, and Jose of Joyful Addition blog.

also a special thanks everyone who has retweeted and helped spread the word.  we will be posting flyers around the neighborhood this week to reach to those not yet a part of our amazing online blogging community.

we can’t wait to see your pictures – send them in soon!
